Most women spend their lives searching for “Mr Right” but it seems that the horror genre didn’t have look very hard to find Mr Wright! He came storming in and stole the thunder with stories that demand our attention.
With his newest release, The Housemates, I spent a night trying desperately to stay awake to read “just one more chapter”. There is always something happening but none of it feels forced, it’s perfectly timed to give you plenty of action whilst keeping plenty of story. The characters are well-developed over the course of the story and each of them are unique, believable people who just jump to life.
This story is set up similar to Big Brother, twelve contestants are put into a secluded house for ten days. The two winners get a million pounds each, unless they want to go head to head in a final task to win the full amount. They’re driven out to an unknown location so that even they don’t know where they are and cut off from any outside influence. Everything seems normal, if slightly over the top. Then things go..a bit downhill..
Iain’s books have a funny way of linking to one another, it’s a really nice trait because if you’ve never read his books it doesn’t really affect you, but if you’ve read them you’ll notice little mentions which are fun to pick up on. Most authors have one or two great books in them, sometimes you will read a book by a certain author and then you might not rate the next one. I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I have loved every book I have read by Iain Rob Wright.
If you buy this book you will not be able to put it down and you will have to stay up late to finish the chapter, this is not just a book you can put down and forget. You will find yourself thinking about it and talking about it. This book also links to another but I won’t mention the name of the book because it was a delightful surprise when I realised!
8/10 – he’s done it again!
