Today is my day on the Blood of the Lost Kingdom Tour with The Write Reads on Tour!

This is the second book in the Daughter of Erabel series and it continues right from where the last one finished. Fiadh and Gideon have parted ways and begun along their own paths following the events of the first book.

At first I found this one a slower read than the first book but I soon got just as involved with it as I did the first time round. Book One does more of the character set up, but that’s not the say that there aren’t any new characters to learn about in this one nor does it mean that the existing characters don’t get their chance to grow, it’s just that Book Two is more about setting up the worlds and the history of Fiadh’s family.

I find this story a really interesting and imaginative one, with some really creative imagery and gripping events.

Kristin Ward is the kind of author who will bring you to the edge of your seat and is quite happy to leave you there. Both times now when I’ve reached the end of the book, I’ve been hungry for more. The first thing I did was check that book three was available!

I really enjoy Ward’s writing style, it’s easy to follow without being too simple and that’s what makes it perfect for a Young Adult audience. Especially the fact that it is following Irish History and Folklore which I think is really nice. It’s important for young people to learn about the history and culture of the world they live in and I wish I’d found more of it when I was younger. The great thing about YA Fiction of course, is that I can live that life now because it’s actually for everyone!

Not to go off on a tangent here but I’ve read a lot lately about how people are ‘too old’ to be reading Young Adult Fiction and that is about the most stupid thing I ever heard. Reading is for everyone, and about every genre will have something that everyone likes even if its not normally the genre they’d go for. All Young Adult means is that it’s a step up from Children’s fiction and it’s not quite hitting the kind of content you might find in Adult fiction. So if Young Adult is not ok for Adults, then I shouldn’t have been reading it when I was a child either, but life’s like that and I say it’s fair game for everyone to read whatever they like.

So if you’re thinking about reading this but you’re not sure because of the genre, I say, go for it. I’m actually really enjoying reading YA fiction lately and there’s nothing wrong with taking a change of pace, or subject matter. In fact it’s a good idea. Reading the same thing day in, day out is going to impact your enjoyment of reading. It’s about adventure, it’s about excitement and even escapism and there is no better book for you to try, right now, than this.

Please check out this series, it’s a great story with some great imagery and I am so excited to see what happens next!

Great review!! I also get a bit angry at people saying YA is just for young adults, I love YA, I love MG, I love adult, reading is reading!!
